Studio 1.1 – 2010/11
Peckham High Street
Christoph Lueder, Lucy Pritchard
Studio 1.1 engaged with a series of sites located between Peckham High Street, which forms part of the Roman road “Watling Street” and Peckham Square. The studio was interested in the particular qualities of urban spaces created by the juxtaposition of large volumes, such as the Peckham Library, the Leisure Centre, or the Shopping centre, located just off the High Street.
Based on their investigations of the wider urban context, students each selected a particular focus of research, such as signage, urban textures, silhouette, urban blocks and gaps, etc, and used these as referents for their design proposals.
The program suggested a small musical instrument space, combined with a community space, which engaged with and complemented commercial, communal, and civic activities on the High Street and Peckham Square, such as the market, neighbouring shops, or the library.
