Course Director, BA(Hons) Architecture
Timothy combines his academic role with one as co-partner of architecture practice Timothy Smith & Jonathan Taylor. Alongside these complimentary professional and academic roles his research interest centres around the use of the classical language in contemporary architecture. The practice has undertaken work for both commercial and private residential clients throughout the UK and current projects include a new-build house in London completed in 2013, a small complex of new dwellings in Cambridgeshire, conversion of a large industrial building in East London and alteration work to a row of historic cottages in an AONB in Dorset for completion in 2014.
In 2011 projects by the practice were shortlisted for an RIBA regional award and the AJ Small Projects Award and projects by the practice have been exhibited at the Building Centre in London. In 2012 a project by the practice for 150 new homes was a finalist in an open international design competition for Peabody.
Timothy has taught and acted as a guest critic at schools in London, Scotland and Switzerland. He is a member of the Royal Institute of British Architects and the Architect’s Registration Board. Timothy’s teaching in the school includes leading diploma Unit 6 with Jonathan Taylor and input into various modules across the three years of the BA Architecture course.
