The School of Surveying & Planning
The APC demands that candidates show a thorough technical and professional knowledge based on relevant experience. Kingston University’s School of Surveying & Planning offers a wide range of technical and professional courses twice a year to help candidates prepare for their final assessment.
Our courses are run under the direction of the School of Surveying & Planning here at Kingston University, and are tutored by both Kingston Academic staff, and experienced APC assessors, in working practices.
APC Intensive Courses
A two-day course for those following the General Practice route covering the basics of a range of technical areas. The course will be suitable for those following the Valuation, Residential, Planning and Development faculty routes.
This two-day revision course covers technical issues and includes the opportunity to discuss problems with APC Assessors in small groups. This course will help you prepare for your Assessment Day through a mixture of technical update sessions and practical training in how to present your experience. The courses are supported by detailed revision notes.
During the two-day course you will be actively involved in sessions and small group discussions, with opportunities to comment upon your prepared Critical Analysis.
This course is tailored to Surveyors preparing to take their APC. It will review the construction industry in general and competency topics in particular. There is group learning and discussion with opportunity for candidates to raise specific issues such as Critical Analysis topics/content and referral review. A full pack of training material will be provided.

This one day course at Kingston University builds on the Real Estate basics covered at the two-day preparation course and, where attended, the evening seminars. It will focus on the cutting edge and current technical and professional issues affecting the profession and which are frequently covered at the APC final Assessment. A separate pack of notes will be available covering a range of competency areas, and will cover topics such as: - Recent case law; New statutory provisions; Current RICS thinking/codes/guidance; notes and events; Valuation methods in the workplace; The investment market; Building construction and pathology; Understanding maps and plans; Other areas which are relevant at the time; Government announcements and strategy. The course will also cover typical frequently asked questions and their answers!!
