International Intensive Foundation Course

 

Why choose this course?

This 12-week course is designed to prepare international students for BA(Hons) study in art, design or architecture at Kingston University. It is ideal if you already have a focus in one major subject area and wish to consolidate your application for a BA course at Kingston University.


What will you study?

The subject areas covered include fashion design, graphic communication, 3D design and fine art, which have been developed from our internationally recognised Art & Design Foundation Diploma.

On completion of the course (providing that you meet the academic and language targets), you will be able to progress to the relevant BA course of your choice at Kingston University.

 

Course features
  • Successful completion of this course guarantees you a place on one of Kingston University’s BA degrees in art, design or architecture. It begins in June and runs for 12 weeks.
  • You can choose from two study routes:
    • 80% studio practice and 20% English as a foreign language; or
    • 80% studio practice and 20% cultural and historical studies (if your English language skills meet the standard entry requirement of IELTS 6.0).
  • The student to staff ratio of 10:1 ensures an exceptionally high level of tutor engagement.
  • Teaching methods include studio work, one-to-one tutorials, lectures, seminars and practical skills workshops.
  • Assessment methods range from presentations and crits to portfolio reviews, essays and student-led projects.
  • You will have accommodation in Kingston University halls of residence during the 12-week foundation course and for the first year of the BA course (providing you meet our eligibility criteria and apply in good time).

Entry Requirements

You will need a minimum IELTS score of 5.5 rising to 6.0 by the time you start your BA course.

 

How to Apply

Direct to University - deadline for receipt of your application form and portfolio of your work is 31 March with course commencement at the beginning of June. The number of places available is limited - early application is advised.

All candidates are required to submit work by CD-Rom, or upload a flickr account, at the time of application. The portfolio should consist of a maximum of 25 pieces of work and 6 to 10 sketchbook or research pages. Files should be organised into a presentation or slideshow format using PowerPoint or PDF to ensure cross-platform compatibility (PC or MAC).

Students should be able to confirm their choice of Pathway at the time of application and present a folder of work on CD, or flickr account that demonstrates evidence and commitment to their chosen pathway. We will conduct personal telephone interviews for successful candidates during February, March and April of the year of entry. Acceptance onto the International Intensive Foundation: Art & Design course will guarantee entry to a BA Honours course at Kingston University providing that academic and language targets are met.
