We offer a range of courses at both undergraduate and postgraduate level aimed at meeting your needs and interests if you wish to follow a career within the broad sectors of property and construction, whether as a Chartered Surveyor, a Town Planner or a Chartered Builder.
A hallmark of all our courses is professionalism, with all courses offering professional accreditation. As a partner of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), most of our undergraduate courses provide full academic exemption for entry to full professional status, subject to the minimum two-year practice component. The exception is the BSc Residential Property, which lead to Technical status. Additionally two programmes are accredited by the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) and, at post graduate level we offer courses accredited by RICS and one, the MA in Planning & Sustainability is recognised by the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI).
Within the School of Surveying & Plannnig we always strive for excellence in both our teaching and your learning. We place a strong emphasis on integrating practice and theory and project work is a key part of the curriculum. The measure of our success is the award in 2005 of Centre for Excellence in Teaching & Learning status. This award, the only one made directly to a Built Environment School, has enabled us to set up C-SCAIPE (the Centre for Sustainable communities Achieved through Integrated Professional Education). This Centre, which is integral within the School is aimed at further developing our approaches to teaching and learning and ensure that our graduates are ready to take their place in their chosen profession.
Committed, enthusiastic, knowledgable and friendly. That is the feedback we consistently receive about our people. From the moment you enter our newly equipped School, you will find a welcoming environment and staff who share a common ambition to help you succeed in your studies. Out links to practice and dedication to research are also vital. Many staff are engaged with our professional bodies and most are also research active.
Research underpins all that we do. We have a lively programme of research project work, much of it undertaken collaboratively with industry. Current strengths within the School are in the fields of sustainable property, valuation and appraisal and in professionalism and professional education. We also have a growing band of research students working in areas such as residential property and green infrastructure.
Our links with practice are strong and we run many training programmes for practitioners, including a wide range of courses for those studying for the Assessment of Professional Competence. Through C-SCAIPE we also work with many industry bodies towards the promotion of more sustainable towns and cities and through the WestFocus consortium we work with other Universities and small and medium sized businesses to promote innovation, partnering and knowledge exchange.
