Introduction

Dr Alexandra Stara qualified as an architect in her native city of Athens, Greece, with subsequent qualifications including Masters degrees in architecture from the Bartlett and the University of Cambridge, and a doctorate in the history of art from the University of Oxford. She is currently director of graduate history/theory, course director of the MA Thinking Building and PhD co-ordinator at the School of Architecture and Landscape. She has taught and examined architecture in several schools in Britain and abroad, and has been lecturing and publishing on the hermeneutics of art, photography, architecture and the modern museum for the past fifteen years. In 2009 she was invinted by the RIBA to be a judge on the panel for the President’s Medals Dissertation Award. She is the author of numerous articles and essays on art and architecture, co-editor of published and forthcoming collected volumes, and curator of an interntational photography exhibition. She is currently preparing a monograph on the Museum of French Monuments.
