Introduction

Alice Maude-Roxby is an artist and photographer who has recently carried out an extensive investigation of performance photography. She curated the exhibition; LIVE ART ON CAMERA, which took place at John Hansard Gallery Southampton in September 2007 and tours to Space, London in 2008. The exhibition looks at the ongoing practices of photographers and film-makers who have documented seminal performances since the 1950s. She has published on the same subject in the catalogue to Art, Lies and Videotape: exposing performance, Tate Liverpool and Advertising, Architecture and the Actions of Gina Pane, Artwords Press, which is a book co-authored with Françoise Masson. Her research, which includes interviews with photographers of seminal performances, has been funded by AHRC and Arts Council England. Her work has been exhibited recently at Galerie Kamm, Berlin, England and Co, London and Site Gallery, Sheffield. She has given lectures on aspects of her recent practice at Arnolfini, Kunsthogskolen Bergen, John Hansard Gallery, Courtauld Institute, Wimbledon School of Art and Showroom Sheffield.
