The social and intellectual history of nineteenth-century European art
Nicholas Tromans studied History of Art and Philosophy at Cambridge University, and wrote a doctoral thesis on the early nineteenth-century genre painter David Wilkie at the Barber Institute of Fine Arts at the University of Birmingham. He has published widely on many aspects of nineteenth-century art. His most recent projects have been an exhibition exploring British Orientalist painting and a book on the Victorian asylum artist Richard Dadd.
