Head of School of Surveying & Planning, Chair C-SCAIPE
Professor Sarah Sayce has been Head of the School of Surveying & Planning since the early 1990s. Having qualified as a Chartered Surveyor and worked in commercial practice both in consultancy and in the corporate sector, she decided to take a complete career change by becoming an academic. It is something she has never regretted and she is delighted to Head what has become one of the most successful Surveying graduate providers in the UK, with programmes ranging from undergraduate to PhD level.
Sarah continues to teach within the School and with colleagues runs a programme of short training courses preparing candidates for their final assessment of professional competence, thus ensuring the School remains very much in touch with professional practice. Sarah’s research work spans commercial valuation to leisure property and more recently she has concentrated on the impact of the new sustainability agenda on commercial property valuation and management. She has written many conference papers and is widely published. The research-led book Building Sustainability in the Balance, for which she was lead author, was published in 2004 and is believed to be the first book on sustainable property published by the Estates Gazette. Her latest book Real Estate Appraisal: from Value to Worth was published in May 2006.
Sarah led the bid writing team that developed CSCAIPE and won CETL status for the School and she is now Chair of the Centre, working closely with the two Centre Directors. In addition to her roles within C-SCAIPE and the School, Sarah is also active within the Surveying profession. She is an APC (Assessment of Professional Competence) Chairman and she is an elected member of both the South East Regional Board and the International Governing Council of the RICS.
