Dr David Lawrence
School: School of Critical Studies and Cultural Industries
Position: Associate Professor
I am industry-grown and architect-trained with a doctorate; I am a widely published writer of architectural and design histories, with a formidable focus on the practice of teaching and research. My research interests lie in all places where people, design and movement meet, from the modernist period to contemporary culture, and in critical theory. I am especially interested in architecture, interiors, three-dimensional, branding and graphical design for organised systems of human enterprise, be they as specific as transportation in cities, or as representations of leisure and class in popular culture. This directed portfolio of engagement directly informs my teaching methodology and pedagogic practice, and is part of the rich resource of material which I have consistently applied to my teaching activities across three dimensional design courses in architecture, interior design, and design history. Furthermore, it has enabled be to build extensive networks which directly enrich and transform the experience of my students, through the educational context and content I provide for them.
