Ms Marloes ten Bhomer

School: Design School
Position: Research Fellow

Research Fellow and Designer Marloes ten Bhömer creates and produces shoes that are both provocative and otherworldly. Her work fuses artistic and technological experiment in order to discover shoes as both design and artifact anew. She devises challenging forms using a wide variety of materials and methods of construction, which are generally used in other design fields, in order to break down preconceptions about shoes and other fashion accessories. In addition to prototypes illustrating processes and methods leading to the final artefact, her design work is expressed through photographs, moving image and performance. Ten Bhömer's work has been exhibited in museums and galleries internationally, she lectures about her work worldwide and is cited in the following: Shillito, A. (2013) Digital Crafts: Industrial Technologies for Applied Artists; Lefteri, C. (2012) Making It; Charny, D. ed (2011) Power of Making Catalogue, V&A; Dalamore, P. & Vartanian, I.
